Kenny and Tammy Meyer, of Smokin' Tailgators fame, are opening "SmokeShack BBQ" at 2615 Chandler Road in Bellevue. Hours of operation will be Tuesdays through Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. They will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.
The menu will feature ribs, brisket, chicken, and pork, along with specials of featherbones and turkey drumsticks. Kenny says they will also feature different sandwiches -- "not strictly barbeque" -- plus chicken wings, chicken livers, and chicken gizzards. All items may not be available initially, but the menu will be expanded as they go.
They will feature fresh sides - potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, baked beans, and garlic buttered potatoes -- in addition to french fries and onion rings.
There is seating for 15-16 people in the restaurant, plus take-out and catering will be available. They will accept cash, Mastercard, and Visa for payment.
The grand opening is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 29. The phone number is 598-0703.

Smokin' Tailgators at Jack Daniel's
GOBS members Kenny and Tammy Meyer of Omaha were invited to participate in the Jack Daniel's Invitational in Tennessee in late October 2007.
To qualify for "The Jack," U.S. teams must have already won a competition in which 50 or more teams participated, or they must have won a competition of at least 25 teams that has been designated a "state championship." However, not only must these teams be culinary experts, they must also be lucky. With more than 100 teams qualifying each year ... and because of the limited space in Lynchburg ... the number of teams is limited, and entrants from states with multiple contestants are selected by lottery.
On Oct. 27, the results were in, and Smokin' Tailgators finished ninth overall! A record 60 champion teams from the U.S. and 21 teams from countries across the world including, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom, fought for this year’s title. The international field was the largest in all of competitive barbequing’s history.
